A new gameplay trailer for upcoming hack and slash Musou game, Dynasty Warriors 9 Empires has dropped.

The three-and-a-half minute trailer gives us an idea of what we can expect in the latest outing of the series. There’s the traditional battles with hundreds of enemy units on screen, of course. But there’s also the added twist of tactical elements specific to the Empires sub-series.

There’ll be plenty of scenarios for budding generals to sink their teeth into, set around the Three Kingdoms period. These include historical battles like the Yellow Turban Rebellion and the Battle of Chibi. Players will be able to fight through these similar to how they really happened, or rewrite history and change the outcome.

Publisher Koei Tecmo has also confirmed that Dynasty Warriors 9 Empires will get a free demo ahead of launch. This will let players get to grips with some of the new features, including Castle Sieges and more. Eager generals will also get some hands on time with the game’s edit mode. A specific date hasn’t been confirmed outside of ‘early 2022’ but you’ll be able to import the Edit Officer data into the full game, if you like.

Check out the trailer for yourself down below. Dynasty Warriors 9 Empires lands on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and PC on February 15, 2022.
