Dr Dre is reportedly working on music for a new Grand Theft Auto game, according to fellow rapper Snoop Dogg.

The news comes from Rolling Stone (spotted by Video Games Chronicle), whom Snoop was talking to for an upcoming episode of their Music Now podcast. “I do know he’s in the studio,” he said. “I do know he’s making great f***ing music. And some of his music is connected to the GTA game that’s coming out. So I think that that will be the way that his music will be released, through the GTA video game.”

It’s currently unclear if Snoop is referring to an entirely new Grand Theft Auto game or the upcoming Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition. Of course, music licensing is often a thorny issue, with several of the games in the series losing the rights to use certain pieces of music over the years. Is it possible then that this could be replace some of the expired music in the new collection?

Either way, representatives from Rockstar have apparently declined to comment on the statement to Rolling Stone. Similarly, representatives for Dr Dre also did not respond to requests for comment. We’ll have to wait and see if we should take Snoop at his word, or forget about Dre.

In the meantime, Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition will see the classic trilogy given a new lease of life on November 11. Before then, why not check out Josh’s musings on the 20 years since the launch of Grand Theft Auto III?
