Digimon Story Time Stranger is the latest adventure in the Digimon RPG series and serves as a spiritual successor to the cult classic Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth. The game was originally released in October 2025 on PS5 and PC, but not for Switch or Switch 2.
This was odd, since, as with Pokémon, Digimon is well-suited to portable consoles, with the Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth games both releasing on the PS Vita and Nintendo Switch 1. Also, Bandai Namco frequently collaborates with Nintendo, so Time Stanger not coming to the console felt like a snub.
However, during Nintendo’s Partner Direct show on 5 February 2026, Nintendo finally announced that the game would be coming to Nintendo’s portable powerhouse on July 10, 2026, proving good things do indeed come to those who wait.
“We’re so back”
In truth, Time Stranger was always going to be coming to the Switch 2, but the reasons for the delay are unknown. The game is also scheduled to come out on the Nintendo Switch 1 on the same day, but we can imagine the Switch 2 version will be closer to the PS5 version in terms of visual fidelity.
Digimon fans are a passionate bunch and made a lot of noise on social media, calling for Time Stranger to come to Nintendo Switch 1 and 2. Upon the announcement, popular Digimon YouTuber Karn_EX commented, “We’re SO back” after spending months calling for the game to arrive on the console.
While the game coming to Switch 2 was always likely, its Switch 1 port is a welcome surprise. After all, a lot more people own a Switch 1 than a Switch 2. It looks like an even wider audience will get to enjoy new adventures in the Digital World come summer.
