Following on from excessively long queue times, Diablo 4 players are now begging for an offline mode that will prevent them from needing to sit around waiting for an open spot on servers.

While the launch of Diablo 4 has been nothing but incredibly successful, the state of the servers has been well and truly stretched. One of the largest games to ever have launched, Blizzard have reassured that they’re going to be working hard on ensuring that Diablo 4 servers are kept in the best condition. With hundreds of thousands of people playing the game, it’s no wonder that many are struggling to get onto the servers. Diablo 4 fans already had to find a ridiculous fix for the license error on PS5, though there is still a portion of players unable to get into the servers consistently.

This has led to pleas for an offline-mode which wouldn’t need to abide by the same connection demands as the online version of the game. “Why isn’t there an offline mode”, questions one player in a Reddit thread, while others comment on how “it is incredibly disgusting the state forced online has been in game”. Despite the melodrama of the latter statement, the sentiment rings true. Diablo 4 players are frustrated with the state of the game being online-only, so much so that they’re begging for an offline mode.

Opposition to this line of thinking assert that online-only games prevent piracy and cheating, which is a fair concern, though traditionally Diablo has always been a single-player game. Diablo 4’s online-only mode might prevent cheating, but there’s theories out there that the only reason it is so is due to the existence of microtransactions in game.

In fact, pleas for an offline mode have existed since the early betas, with people hoping the full game launch would include it. Ultimately, it seems that Blizzard have chosen lean on the side of caution, and the servers prevent exploits to client-side aspects of the game.

While we aren’t seeing any sign of an offline-mode being introduced at the next Diablo 4 update, we can still hope.
