It’s fair to say that Blizzard can’t seem to strike a good balance when it comes to their vision for Diablo 4 mechanics and what players want. Since Diablo 4’s release, players have noted their frustration at Blizzard’s forced cooldown times on many in-game mechanics. With it being nearly two months since the game’s release and many fans still not happy with cooldown implementation, many have now begun pointing to games that do it right in their eyes, namely Path of Exile 2.

Players’ complaints surrounding the cooldown mechanic began with Diablo 4 fans dubbing the game’s mount cooldown, “the dumbest thing in gaming.” With the topic of in-game cooldowns again in the news after the recent Diablo 4 Campfire Chat livestream, many players have been begging Blizzard to approach the issue from a similar perspective to that of the Path of Exile 2 developers.

Taking to the Diablo 4 Reddit, u/diamondnbronze presented Path of Exile 2’s “philosophy on how to use different skills.” In the post, the perspective from the Path of Exile 2 developers noted that, “we could force a player to use multiple skills by [either] putting cooldowns on everything [and/or] relying entirely on skills that reliably gain resources to use other expensive skills.” The statement continued by accepting that while it can be fun to learn how to manage these mechanics the developers ultimately wanted to avoid “this because it gets players into a rotation.”

The Path of Exile 2 developers argued that “instead, using different skills should come from combat situations.” While many players believed this would be a great way of approaching Diablo 4’s combat, one user noted, “So far I have never seen a good combat system without cooldowns. Instead of having rotations you usually have nothing, you press 1 button the entire time and that’s it.”

Cooldowns weren’t the only items being discussed by Diablo 4 fans since the recent Campfire Chat livestream as the Diablo 4 1.1.1 patch notes will finally add the sorcerer buffs fans have been dreaming of. Alongside this, Diablo 4 patch 1.1.1 will remove Resource Burn affix and increase monster density.
