Update: Since the publication of this article, Activision has responded to Videogamer with the following statement; “The default position of the cursor in the Seasons menu for players using a controller will be changed in a future update to no longer default to the premium Battle Pass.

Alongside this, Blizzard provided further clarification on the lack of a “confirm purchase” button, noting that a confirmation pop-up now appears when activating the premium Battle Pass.

Original Story: Diablo 4 has been no stranger to player controversy lately, but usually, this has been down to gameplay bugs and a call for more social features and balancing fixes. However, players are now airing their frustration at the game’s ‘Activate Premium Battle Pass’ button, with some players describing it as “Malicious Design.”

While the Diablo 4 development team revealed future updates, including much-needed inventory and Sorceress changes in yesterday’s Diablo 4 Season 1 Campire Chat live stream, this has done little to quell players’ concerns and frustrations regarding the game’s ‘Activate Premium Battle Pass’ button.

For context, players who purchased the ultimate edition of Diablo 4 got access to the game’s accelerated Battle Pass. Players are now calling out the Diablo 4 team for not adding a confirmation option when redeeming the feature in the current season.

Given the number of times players will visit the menu, which automatically starts on the ‘Accelerated Battle Pass’ button, a number of players have mistakenly activated the feature as there were no precautionary measures in place for accidental misclicks. Taking to the Diablo 4 Reddit, one user pointed out that “Adding a feature that only exists to pray on misclicks so people activate their Battle Pass when they don’t want to sucks and feels bad.”

Alongside this, they also linked to a number of examples where players accidentally redeemed the ‘Premium Battle Pass.’ One of the links includes a Twitter clip from content creator and streamer Rurikhan, who unintentionally activated that Pass and described the layout as “Malicious Design”. In their post, they said, “So Blizzard placed the ‘Activate Premium Battle Pass’ button right next to the button you have to constantly press to check your Season Journey. Guess what happened to me and at least 5 others on my stream. This is straight-up Malicious Design.”

We’ve reached out to Blizzard for comment, and we’ll update this when we hear more.
