Capcom has revealed during the latest issue of Famitsu magazine (via Siliconera) that the developer is pushing for photorealism in upcoming stylish actioner Devil May Cry 5.

A number of key developers on the upcoming hack-'n-slash sequel told the publication that they are aiming for a consistent 60fps for Devil May Cry 5, and is using 3D scanning for people and clothing in order to help achieve its goal for a more realistic visual presentation.

Some tweaks to the action have been made in order to avoid any dodgy visuals that would come from motion skipping, however:

'Previously, the focus was on response so players were able to motion cancel, but for Devil May Cry 5 it’ll read the input but it won’t simply skip through the animation of the previous action.'

The Famitsu interview also confirms that the game takes place a few years after Devil May Cry 4, as they wanted to depict Nero 'at the top of his game.'

Capcom says that Dante hasn't gone wild for no reason, presumably referring to the fact he's now grown a beard and loves riding around on a motorbike.

The team also make it clear they have big ambitions for Devil May Cry 5, as they want to establish it as the 'peak of action games' within the Heisei period (1989 – April 2019). Interestingly, the demon-slaying sequel will feature music that changes as you combo enemies, making it possible for you to get stuck on a certain melody if you don't execute something suitably stylish.

Devil May Cry 5 is currently in development for PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One and will be out by the end of March 2019.

Production seems to be coming along well, with Capcom saying a few weeks ago that the game is around 75% complete.
