Update 2: Bungie has said it is “making progress in identifying issues that are preventing players from signing in to Destiny. Investigations continue. Please stand by”.

Update: Destiny players attempting to connect to the game’s servers following the launch of Rise of Iron are now being put into a queue in an what is presumably an effort to ease server load.

Original report: After hyping up the launch of latest Destiny expansion ‘Rise of Iron’ with a countdown to 10am, Bungie now has a community meltdown on its hands thanks to an issue preventing players from connecting.

All platforms have been affected by the problem, Bungie says.

Gamers trying to connect are told to search the Bungie help site for error code tapir.

We’ll post an update once Bungie has the issue under control.

Once you do get into the game there’s the promise of a ton of content, including an all-new setting on Earth called The Plaguelands, a brand-new six-player Raid, Felwinter Peak, a new social space that looks out onto The Plaguelands, new cooperative three-player Strike, more quests, weapons, gear, competitive multiplayer mode and maps, a Light level increase, a new mutated enemy faction of the Fallen and more.

Plaguelands: This area near the Cosmodrome has been quarantined for centuries. Now the Devil Splicers have broken through the walls, dug deep into the earth and found a technology of almost limitless power-and limitless peril. The Splicers are using this forbidden technology – SIVA – to transform the region, and themselves, to fit their twisted desires.

New Raid: Hidden in the Cosmodrome lies the true source of the SIVA outbreak, guarded by the most zealous and powerful Fallen Devil Splicers. Six Guardians will plumb the depths to stop the threat at its source. Should they emerge victorious, they will return to the surface wielding powerful new weapons and armor forged from SIVA itself.
