A large number of players within the Destiny 2 community are extremely frustrated at the lacklusted campaign and story of the Lightfall expansion. Unfortunately, the success of the previous DLC in The Witch Queen may have also contributed to the user base’s raised expectations.

Many that have already been able to play through the latest chapter’s main story are dissatisfied at how the plot was told throughout, noting that The Witness was barely featured in it. Several trailers shown before the release of Lightfall heavily featured the primary antagonist, so many assumed that they would be making an appearance at some point.

Unfortunately, this wasn’t the case and Guardians were instead treated to an extended tutorial of the Strand subclass. Even after the initial introduction, the story still seemingly refused to tell anything remotely relevant to the back story of The Witness, The Veil, and everything else they’re connected to.

The collective disappointment of the entire community has naturally bled over to multiple social media sites including Reddit, of course. Several posts have already been made by different users expressing their annoyance with how this campaign seemed more like a filler than anything. One redditor even created an extensive review detailing all of the aspects they were frustrated by.

Other players commenting under the previously mentioned post were largely in agreement. Most were confused as to why Neomuna was now being introduced as a separate story when The Final Shape – and the climactic battle – is set to take place soon. Some were predictably comparing it to the widely beloved The Witch Queen campaign, with most saying that Lightfall is an incredibly disappointing follow-up.

Unfortunately, those looking for more in terms of the story will have to wait again until the next season. But with how the player base’s reaction has been so far, it seems that the expansions is off to a frustratingly less-than-stellar start.
