Destiny 2 is a popular game by name, but right now it and Bungie are going through a really rough patch. Although The Final shape was considered excellent, many fans are unimpressed with the game’s current state and are not optimistic about its future. Many Destiny 2 players are also fuming because a bug has changed a “high number of account names”.

There is a lot of frustration surrounding D2. Fans are not happy with the recent “terrible buffs” to exotic class item farming, meanwhile, reports suggest Bungie has cancelled a Destiny 2 spin-off. The Final Shape was considered great earlier this year, but currently the game is in a bad state with its player count significantly declining.

Fans are understandably worried about the state of the game especially following the unfortunate mass layoffs at Bungie. The most recent update didn’t impress many in the community, and right now lots of players have become victim to a bug changing account names.

Destiny 2 bug changes account names

On the official DestinyTheGame subreddit, Bungie has acknowledged a Destiny 2 bug that is changing account names. Per Bungie, they “are tracking an issue where a high number of account names have been changed by our Bungie name moderation tool. We are actively investigating and expect to have more information tomorrow, including details on an additional name change token for all players”.

In the comments, many of the replies are understandably frustrated. One reply says, “What a f***ing disgrace. Mess after mess,” meanwhile, another comment says, “You mean you have automated player moderation tools? And they make mistakes? Color me surprised…”.

Another damning comment says, “f I log in when I get home and see that my name is wiped and I cannot get that same name back, then I am just done with Destiny. 10 years I have played and this will honestly be the last straw for me. I’m not playing as Guardian#6847474774731908586 and I am not changing my name to something else either. I had a unique name which was NOT offensive and I liked it”.

Many players are understandably fuming about the bug, and they are also concerned that they won’t be able to change their name back to their original ID. Bungie says they will be giving players an “additional name change token,” but one reply says, “Just make the damned name changes free already. This token bulls**t is incredibly stupid”.

Keep an eye on the DestinyTheGame subreddit for an update on the situation that should be arriving soon.
