EA has announced that it’s setting the release date for its upcoming Dead Space remake for January 27, 2023.

The company made the announcement as developer EA Motive showcased the game’s art style in its latest livestream. Art Director Mike Yazijian joined the game’s creative director Roman Campos-Oriola and senior producer Philippe Ducharme for the showcase. Fans got a peek behind the curtain at how the remake has visually evolved from the original 2008 survival horror.

The hour-long broadcast covered four main pillars, including making the USG Ishimura feel more like a lived-in place before the messy Marker business. The team praised the original for already having an incredibly strong art direction. However, they felt they could make things even spookier with the advancement of modern trappings like dynamic volumetric lighting.

On top of concept art, we also got an extended look at the remake’s interpretation of the Engine Room. One of the major areas of the original now looks just as dangerous as ever, with upgrades to pyrotechnics, smoke and similar effects. As the engine roars into life, the tension’s racketed up even further, casting shadows that are the perfect hiding spots for monsters. You can check that out if you’re feeling brave, as well as the longer, full livestream below.

The Dead Space remake arrives on its release date of January 27, 2023 on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 & PC.
