Days Gone developer Sony Bend has revealed a bunch of new info on the upcoming not-zombie open-world action game during a Q&A session with Game Informer.

According to the game's Creative Director John Garvin, Days Gone does not feature the word zombie at any point; they're not zombies you see, they're Freakers. Very different. Oh, and he assures us that it'll be an 'awesome' game too, so that's good to know.

Garvin also revealed that protagonist Deacon St. John is the only playable character in the game, is a good bloke, and will be somebody we actually care about. Furthermore, Days Gone will pack around 30 hours of gameplay on the 'golden path' and will still let gamers back into the world after the credits roll.

Your bike will also be more than just a means to get around. Players can customise their ride with various upgrades (paint job, exhaust, speed, handling) and if you're not careful it can break down or even get lost, forcing you to go and find it. Days Gone will include a bunch of collectibles though will not, perhaps unsurprisingly, feature a multiplayer component.

On the technical side of things, the game will feature checkerboard 4K support on PlayStation 4 Pro and will run at 30fps. We're also promised 'massive metropolitan areas' and apparently Deacon can swim, but he won't because of narrative reasons.

Finally, Days Gone doesn't appear to have much of a presence at E3 this year, though Sony's still aiming for an early 2019 release following its delay a few months back. Read our impressions from last year's E3 here.
