Counter Strike 2 appears to already be a pretty big success, so much so that developer Valve is struggling to keep up with the load.

Since the game was formally released, players have been flocking in their droves to the new game, and though not every change has proven popular – for example those looking forward to playing CS2 on Mac have, for now, been left behind – the surge in the playerbase has had some side effects. As the official Counter Strike Twitter account put it: “Turns out a lot of you want to play Counter Strike 2!” It seems this popularity has caused a few issues, which the message would also explain. “If you’re having trouble finding a match, it’s because we’ve hit server capacity in different regions. We’re adding more server capacity as fast as possible. Thanks for your patience while this is being addressed.”

A quick look at the game’s concurrent players gives us an idea of just how popular the follow-up’s launch has been, with Steamcharts.com reporting that the game has amassed a peak of 1,394,301 players in the last 24 hours. While server capacity issues are certainly not fun for players to experience, the numbers are certainly nothing to be sniffed at. In fact, Counter Strike GO seemed to be in fairly rude health even before the CS2 update, as it enjoyed a peak of over a million concurrent players as recently as June of this year.

Presumably then, we’ll be seeing a lot of updates and tweaks to CS2 as Valve try to accommodate for the rapid influx of players. They’ve already gotten out some of the first Counter Strike 2 patches, and we expect there’ll certainly be more to come over the coming weeks.
