Counter Strike 2 developer Valve has revealed that they’ve added their very first overhauled map to their shoot ’em up successor in the form of a revamped Overpass. However, this isn’t the only location that’s being brought in as part of the game’s latest patch as Vertigo is also apparently being made available, though in a lesser capacity.
According to the official set of Counter Strike 2 patch notes, the revamped Overpass is apparently playable through a bunch of different match types including Competitive, Casual, Deathmatch, and the newly introduced Wingman mode. Vertigo, on the other hand, can only be experienced through Deathmatch and Casual game modes, meaning you won’t be able to show off your skills on the skyscraper-based map in a Ranked setting just yet.
Unfortunately, the introduction of these two areas means that a couple of maps in Nuke and Office have now been taken out in order to make way for them. With Valve continuously tweaking their map offerings ahead of the Counter Strike 2 release date, however, we can more than likely expect a few changes to be made to these recently excluded locations as well.
Overpass has long been a classic – and notorious – CSGO map staple since it was first added to the game in 2013 as part of the Winter Offensive update. Throughout the years, however, it has often had to endure its fair share of layout changes due to several prominent exploits (like the infamous boostmeister controversy in DreamHack Winter 2014) that professional players used to their advantage to win matches.
Of course, with Counter Strike 2 already meant to introduce a massive overhaul to Valve’s FPS as a whole, the additions of these revamped maps aren’t exactly surprising as Mirage will similarly be seeing a significant set of changes following its removal in a previous patch. Nevertheless, these improvements will undoubtedly bring about a massive shift in how casual and professional gamers approach each of these maps – a necessary development seeing as how the game had grown stagnant in the past few years.
