As a PlayStation exclusive part of Sony’s new live-service focus, Concord may be the company’s biggest failure yet. With estimated Concord sales numbers far behind expectations, the new multiplayer shooter is a dark mark on PlayStation’s generation of success.
Concord sales numbers revealed
As Concord’s player numbers lose to new indie games and fall behind other commercial failures such as Suicide Squad, some are wondering how many gamers actually purchased the game. As the small audience of players wait minutes to find a single game, it seems that Concord is already dead.
According to analyst Mat Piscatella, via IGN, Concord sales numbers are estimated at around 25,000 units across PC and PS5.
The current sales estimate claims that around 10,000 gamers purchased the game on Steam. On PS5, the home market for the title, the sales aren’t much better with only 15,000 estimated units sold.
“Concord ranked 147th in US PS5 daily active players across all titles, with fewer than 0.2% of Monday’s active PS5 players playing the game,” the report states.
With PlayStation pitching Concord as the next big thing — even making a Limited Edition DualSense controller for it — the gaming company has missed the mark. As it turns out, gamers just don’t want Concord, especially not at a price.
An eight-year mistake
After eight years of development, Concord’s failure is a massive stain on PlayStation in 2024. Costing millions to develop, the game’s shockingly poor sales numbers may go down in history as one of the biggest gaming bombs of all time.
However, this doesn’t mean the end of PlayStation’s first-party live-service agenda. With titles like Helldivers 2 selling far beyond expectations, the company still has a 50% success rate on this new initiative.
Nevertheless, with PlayStation known as the home of high-quality single-player adventures, do players even want more live-service titles?
