As something of a surprise hit revealed during the Xbox Game Showcase, the upcoming RPG is Sandfall Interactive’s debut game. While we only got to see a reveal trailer for Clair Obscur Expedition 33, we were given a release window scheduling it for next year. This turn-based game is reportedly inspired by the lavish art and culture of France’s Belle Époque. Here’s what we know.
When is the Clair Obscur Expedition 33 release window?
The Clair Obscur Expedition 33 release window is confirmed to be 2025. While we have no fixed release date, the launch window was given by the developers at the end of the game’s first reveal trailer during the Xbox Game Showcase event. We’ll have to wait a bit longer to hear more, but we know a lot of details about the game already.
Clair Obscur Expedition 33 gameplay
From the game’s reveal trailer and a press release, we know Expedition 33 is a single-player turn-based RPG. There is a clear French theme to this game, taking place in the city of Luiere, the last city of humanity. In the world of Expedition 33, characters only live to a certain age that is pre-determined by an entity called the Paintress. Once a year, she wakes and paints a number on a monolith to represent an age. When someone reaches this age, they are wiped from existence.
From this, our heroes set out to stop the Paintress. On this journey, you’ll explore a fantasy world, take place in dynamic turn-based combat, and grow closer to your travelling companions. In combat, you can execute dodges and parries, while also being able to add more hits to your attacks with button inputs.
Clair Obscur Expedition 33 trailers
At the time of writing, we’ve only seen the one reveal trailer for Expedition 33. This trailer was revealed during the Xbox Game Showcase in June, giving us our first look at the game. There is plenty of gameplay and exploration to look at in the trailer, serving as a brief glimpse for what we can expect. We might get another trailer at Gamescom this August, but we can only wait until we hear from the devs.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 will be released sometime in 2025. It will launch on PS5, Xbox, and PC.
