The Helldivers 2 Escalation of Freedom update was released yesterday and brought new planets, missions, enemies, and many other changes to the game. Unfortunately, many popular weapons were also nerfed, mainly fire weapons which has led to backlash from players that primarily fight the Terminids.
U/BaconSock took to the Helldivers 2 sub-Reddit to question the recent Escalation of Freedom update that saw popular weapons including the Flamethrower and Breaker Incendiary Shotgun be nerfed. “What caused the first round of nerfs? Players were overusing the railgun because of the charger spam,” they said.
They then noted that most of the popular weapons that get nerfed were previously part of the meta for dealing with the Terminids, specifically the Chargers. “Quasar cannon, arc thrower, flame thrower, EVERY nerfed weapon is a direct result of it being used to deal with the over abundance of Chargers on higher difficulties.”
So, “What if they just nerf the Chargers? Reduce the leg armor values or not throwing 5 of them at a time at us… Possibly then instead of everyone flocking to the best weapon to deal with them we could have more variety. If more things get used willingly they wouldn’t need to nerf the good stuff to force us to do it.”
The recent nerfs have led to a lot of backlash, with many questioning the reasoning considering new fire-themed weapons are coming to Helldivers 2 with the Freedom’s Flame Warbond. Hopefully, there is logic behind the nerfs so the newer weapons can become more favorable, but only time will tell.
