The future of Resident Evil looks fantastic! Next year will see the release of Resident Evil 9, Requiem, and there will also be the release of a highly anticipated movie because of director, Zach Cregger, of the critically acclaimed Weapons and Barbarian. As for what will happen after, Capcom are finally set to deliver a Resident Evil Code Veronica remake and more following RE9.

Capcom finally remaking Resident Evil Code Veronica

AestheticGamer aka Dusk Golem is a prominent Resident Evil leaker. They have a track record of accuracies such as leaking the Resident Evil 4 Remake and Dragon’s Dogma 2, and they accurately leaked details about RE9, although they previously believed it would be Leon and Jill as two-players rather than newcomer, Grace Ashcroft, and still possibly Leon, although currently unconfirmed but teased by Capcom. While Jill Valentine instead of Grace was inaccurate, Capcom confirmed that RE9 went through multiple changes during pre-development such as once being conceived as an online open-world shooter.

Beyond Resident Evil 9, Dusk Golem reports that rather than RE1 or RE5, “the next remakes are Resident Evil Code Veronica & Resident Evil Zero”. Dusk Golem states that “They should be releasing in 2027/2028,” however, they are unsure “which is coming out first & which second”.

More remakes of Resident Evil is obvious, but the question has always been what will be remade next. The first RE is an easy contender, but it was already remastered and subsequently given a HD glow. Resident Evil 5 would naturally follow RE4, but it’s not as critically acclaimed as other RE installments.

A remake of Code Veronica would be highly welcomed. It’s a cult classic in the series, but it is lesser known than the numerical installments such as RE2, RE3, and RE4. A Resident Evil 0 remake would also be interesting, and we’d be well up for either RE0 or Code Veronica first.

This isn’t the first time remakes for Code Veronica and RE0 have been reported. Dusk Golem claimed Code Veronica and RE0 were next back in May 2024, and IGN were able to “corroborate” AestheticGamers’ claim.

If you’re a fan of Resident Evil, then the next few years will truly be fantastic with RE9, the movie directed by Zach Cregger of Weapons, and then remakes of RE0 and Code Veronica. We absolutely cannot wait.

In other RE news, multiple RE characters seemingly teased for RE9.
