Resident Evil Requiem looks fantastic. It has undergone major shifts as it was originally conceived as an online multiplayer game, but instead we are thankfully getting a single-player experience with a huge focus on horror. Leaks and rumors have suggested for a long time that Leon Kennedy will be in the game as a second playable character. While Capcom have rubbished the idea, saying nobody wants to see Leon scared, the belief isn’t going away, especially as a face model for Resident Evil 9 has teased multiplayer playable characters while also confirming she’s more than just an “NPC”.
Resident Evil 9 model teases multiple playable characters
Super model Roya Athina has confirmed she is a face model for Resident Evil 9. She hasn’t named the character she’s playing, but the assumption is she’s the face model for Grace.
While she doesn’t entirely resemble Grace in the video she shared, she does resemble the leading lady more in other images shared on her Instagram profile. In addition, she also confirmed that she is a “playable character” rather than an “NPC,” which again lends credence to the likelihood she is Grace.
Aside from revealing her involvement, what’s most interesting about the post is the tease of “playable character(s)”. This suggests there are more playable characters in the game than just Grace, with again leaks and rumors pointing to Leon.
In addition to Leon, there were earlier leaks suggesting Jill Valentine would be a playable character, too. This was before the reveal of the game and Grace’s involvement, so it’s possible the original plan was for Jill and Leon before getting switched, or maybe the rumors of Jill were bogus the whole time.
Speculation about Leon isn’t going away, and, while nothing is official, it seems as though Capcom are leaning into the speculation by namedropping the RE4 megastar repeatedly. It would be incredible to play as Leon again, and it would be interesting to see his growth from a young action hero into a grizzled veteran in his fifties.
Of course, the involvement of Leon and any other playable characters isn’t official right now as Capcom have only confirmed Grace. Even if we take Capcom at their word and Grace is the only playable character, RE9 still looks incredible, and it promises to be the best of both worlds with Capcom allowing for both third and first-person experiences.
