Now that the launch of Activision’s highly anticipated Call of Duty Black Ops 6 is inching closer than ever, more news surrounding its release is beginning to surface. This time, instead of another mysterious teaser through its interactive website, details on have seemingly been revealed. Predictably enough, BO6 will reportedly be available on modern PlayStation, Xbox, and PC systems. However, its playability on previous-gen consoles (PS4 and Xbox One) along with the Nintendo Switch remains unclear.

That’s according to an X (formerly Twitter) post from CoD news aggregator CharlieIntel. However, it is worth noting that, as CharlieIntel pointed out, Activision had previously signed a 10-year deal to keep the series on PlayStation and Nintendo. So, many are speculating that Black Ops 6 could eventually make its way onto the handheld’s successor once the Nintendo Switch 2 release date has been revealed. Though, of course, take this with the customary grain of salt since this hasn’t officially been confirmed.

Although BO6’s potential absence from previous-gen platforms would undoubtedly be a blow to a portion of the CoD player base, its unconfirmed modern console exclusivity wouldn’t exactly be a surprise. After all, it’s been four years since the launch of both the PS5 and Xbox Series X, so it was only a matter of time until newly released games started becoming current-gen exclusives.

As for handheld loyalists, the last time Call of Duty was featured on a Nintendo console was on the Wii U (Black Ops 2 and Ghosts), so you may need to temper your expectations for now. That said, the Switch’s popularity, paired with the CoD series’ ubiquity, may mean the time is ripe for a long-awaited return on Nintendo’s platform.
