Reports have surfaced that the next Call of Duty installment to be released in 2024 will be a new Black Ops entry. Treyarch, the studio responsible for developing most of the Black Ops entries released in the 2010s, will apparently be responsible for the development of the next game once again. Though this is yet to be confirmed, they will most likely be assisted by other studios like Beenox and Raven Software, much like they were in the past.

With the MW3 Season 1 start date still yet to kick off, this news should surprise most CoD fans since the latest divisive series installment is still in its early days. However, according to a report from Windows Central, development on what’s currently being referred to as “Black Ops 6” is already well underway, with the game’s plot set to take place during the Gulf War, an armed conflict between Iraq and a coalition led by the United States and the UK.

In addition, a previous article from Insider Gaming revealed that more classic maps will be making their way back into Call of Duty 2024, reportedly including “WMD from Black Ops 1 and the DLC map Grind from Black Ops 2.” If this does end up being true, this would be the second CoD game in a row in which old fan-favorite maps are being used to round out the multiplayer map list, with 2023’s Modern Warfare 3 already featuring several beloved locations.

Windows Central’s report also claims that a round-based zombie mode will allegedly be re-introduced in Call of Duty 2024, though much like many of the rumors mentioned above, it is still yet to be confirmed. With this in mind, we recommend taking all these details with a heaping amount of salt for the time being since Activision and Treyarch have yet to officially comment on these reports.
