Bungie has officially confirmed a delay to their highly anticipated expansion in Destiny 2 The Final Shape after Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier initially reported the pushback in October 2023. According to the game’s developer, they’ve postponed its release to take “the time we need to deliver an even bigger and bolder vision, one that we hope will be remembered and treasured for years to come.”

Imminent seasonal updates, such as the upcoming Destiny 2 Season 23 start time, are still set to kick off as scheduled, with the aforementioned patch taking place from late November until early February. However, with the delay to The Final Shape now in the pipeline, new content will need to be introduced to make up for the significant gap between updates. Fortunately, Bungie has shared their plans for this period, including a two-month content update called Destiny 2: Into the Light.

Based on the developer’s brief announcement, the Into the Light patch “will prepare players for their Guardian’s journey into the Traveler.” “All of this is in addition to the ongoing efforts from our PvP Strike Team, including three new PvP maps dropping in May,” they continued. Though details on these new maps remain scarce as of writing, Crucible enjoyers should be pleased with this development since many had long been asking for more content to be introduced to the underappreciated mode.

Of course, these aren’t the only new pieces of content you can enjoy during this time, as Bungie has also revealed that it’ll be adding “progression-based quests called Wishes, and the launch of Moments of Triumph with unique rewards” in February. With all this and more to look forward to, the wait for the conclusion to The Light and Darkness Saga shouldn’t be too excruciating.
