EA has announced it’s developing a brand new third person Black Panther game in conjunction with Marvel at its newly formed Cliffhanger Games.

While details are scant at this time, the new game will be single player, and will provide a “definitive and authentic Black Panther experience” with their intention to “build an expansive and reactive world that empowers players to experience what it is like to take on the mantle of Wakanda’s protector, the Black Panther.”

It’s worth noting that this is not related to the Captain America and Black Panther game previously announced from Skydance Studios. In fact, the press release states that the game will be its own original story, so it won’t be related to the movies or any of the existing Black Panther stories.

The new studio itself, Cliffhanger Games, is led up by Kevin Stephens, formerly of Monolith Productions, the studio responsible for the hugely popular Shadow of Mordor series. The studio itself includes some of the people who worked on that game, as well as those who’ve worked on Halo Infinite, God of War and Call of Duty to name but a few, according to the press release.

Stephens gives a quote on the upcoming Black Panther game, promising players “We’re dedicated to delivering fans a definitive and authentic Black Panther experience, giving them more agency and control over their narrative than they have ever experienced in a story-driven video game. Wakanda is a rich Super Hero sandbox, and our mission is to develop an epic world for players who love Black Panther and want to explore the world of Wakanda as much as we do.”

Hopefully, we’ll hear more about this new game soon. EA is pretty busy with Marvel projects at the moment, as EA Motive are currently working on an Iron Man game which was announced back in September of last year. Following that announcement, it was reported that “at least” three new action adventure games would be on the way as a result of the partnership between EA and Marvel.
