Call of Duty Black Ops 6 is set to come out just slightly before Halloween. As with every yearly installment, there is a lot of hype surrounding BO6 thanks to the campaign as well as, most importantly, the multiplayer. The betas earlier at the beginning of September were a lot of fun, but not everything was perfect. Following up on all of the feedback received, Treyarch has announced Call of Duty Black Ops 6 multiplayer is adding a missing feature from the series’ past because of “popular demand”.
The release date for Black Ops 6 is October 25th, and it will be available day one on Xbox Game Pass. Treyarch has announced a bunch of changes for multiplayer at launch, yet the developer still hasn’t addressed a potential “huge issue” that has fans worried.
While multiplayer will continue to improve when the game launches, the good news is that improvements have already been made and are based on feedback from the community.
Black Ops 6 multiplayer is adding Kill Counter
In their road to launch blog post for Black Ops 6, Treyarch announced huge changes coming to multiplayer day one based on feedback from the betas. We’ve previously discussed all of the changes that are on the way, but one that is easy to get lost in all of the details is the return of a Kill Counter.
Per Treyarch, this is coming back thanks to “popular demand”. We don’t know the specifics of how it will be presented in-game, but the developer has said the Kill Counter is added “on your HUD,” and it will “track your progress toward Kills-in-one-life Medals”.
What this basically means is that the Kill Counter will reset with every death you suffer. The “Kills-in-one-life Medals” mentioned by Treyarch include Nuclear Medal and Nuke Scorestreak.
The return of a Kill Counter is good news as its return clearly indicates many people were missing its presence during the beta. Maybe it will be added as a HUD feature that can be turned on/off as, although popular, there are people who don’t want a visible Kill Counter for reasons such as wanting a cleaner HUD.
In addition to a Kill Counter, Treyarch announced changes that should make cheap deaths less frequent. Per Treyarch, “players should notice fewer extreme cases of bullets doing far too much damage through certain surfaces (AKA Wall Bang), while also not penetrating as expected through others (e.g., those pesky snipers behind the radar dish on Scud)”.
Lastly, the developer has also been working on headshot damage. This won’t be perfected for launch as, although Treyarch agree with complaints from the beta about “low headshot damage,” they “do not want hit location multipliers to significantly affect the consistency of time to kill”.
