The Call of Duty franchise is no stranger to causing controversy. Whether it’s a mission from the single-player campaign or a playable Operator that looks like a historical figure, Activision’s shooter series is never far away from criticism, and Black Ops 6 is no different.
The launch of Black Ops 6 is right around the corner and while it will be the least toxic CoD in franchise history, the game won’t be available for all fans around the world. Ahead of release, the Kuwaiti authorities have taken action and banned the new FPS game from sale.
Black Ops 6 banned in Kuwait
In a statement to CharlieINTEL, Activision says Black Ops 6 hasn’t been approved to launch in the Kuwaiti market resulting in all existing pre-orders to be cancelled and refunded. The exact cause of the decision is unclear but some believe the presence of the Gulf War could be a factor.
Activision “remains hopeful” that 2024’s Call of Duty will release in the country at a later date but there’s no sign of that date appearing anytime soon. Call of Duty is one of the biggest entertainment franchises in the world and the announcement is bound to frustrate players located in Kuwait.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 has not been approved for release in Kuwait. At this time, the title will not be available for release in region.

Kuwait isn’t the first country that has banned Call of Duty from being sold. In 2012, Black Ops 2 was banned in Pakistan due to the game’s portrayal of the country within its campaign. Now, the game is available to purchase after the ban was lifted.
Several Call of Duty games were blocked in Russia too. The controversial ‘No Russian’ mission from 2009’s Modern Warfare 2 resulted in a censored version being released while Sony Interactive Entertainment refused to sell 2019’s Modern Warfare on its digital platforms.
What next for CoD in Kuwait?
With Kuwait missing the October 25 release date for Black Ops 6, it’s unclear when Call of Duty fans in the region can get their hands on Treyarch’s latest release. Those desperate to play at the earliest possible moment are already considering using the New Zealand trick to get into the action. “After I get refunded, I will buy on a New Zealand account,” one fan says.
For the time being, fans in the country may have to find other ways to play Black Ops 6 before authorities lift the ban and it’s available to buy in local retailers.
