Despite the best efforts of Activison, hacking in Call of Duty: Warzone continues to run rampant. While the implementation of Ricochet anti-cheat in 2021 was a step in the right direction, cheaters continue to find ways to beat the system and ruin matches, and Black Ops 6 could launch with the same issues.
With the Black Ops 6 release date on the horizon, players are concerned the presence of hackers within CoD is going to get worse. Even though bans are taking place on a regular basis, the latest cheating technique has the potential to impact the game for the foreseeable future.
Warzone cheating is getting worse
The latest exploit cheaters are using to gain an unfair advantage happens before players have had a change to grab a weapon off the ground. Hackers are now using the in-game text chat to announce they’re going to crash the server before kicking everyone out of the game and back to the main menus.
Currently, this wave of hacking is only effecting Call of Duty: Warzone, attacking battle royale players and stopping them from even fighting through a match. Frustrated fans continue to share their frustrations at not being able to make it into the final circle without being booted out. One player says: “My friends, including me, have stopped playing this garbage. It’s just not worth it.”
On the other hand, there are some players that are happy about the latest cheating technique, hoping it highlights the problems to Activision so it can take further action on reducing the number of hackers once and for all. One fan adds: “I hope they strain the infrastructure so much that it forces Activision to do something.”
The most recent anti-cheat update came on September 1, 2024 following the Black Ops 6 beta. The team behind Ricochet revealed it is testing new features to “stamp out illicit and compromised accounts across all platforms.” Let’s hope those new measures are implemented as soon as possible.
However, considering Black Ops 6 also uses the same anti-cheat as Warzone, the new wave of cheaters also leaves the new release up for grabs. Considering cheats for the new game were already present in the game’s beta, the final release will undoubtedly suffer.
Why is Warzone anti-cheat so bad?
Although Ricochet continues to receive updates, several hackers continue to impact Warzone matches without any kind of punishment. Even with new innovations to prevent cheaters from affecting the outcome of matches, they’re still able to bypass the system ultimately causing widespread frustration among legitimate players attempting to become the last one standing.
It’s clear more changes are required to reduce the number of cheaters making it past the pre-game lobby. With the integration of Black Ops 6 arriving shortly after its launch, it’s the perfect time to revamp the anti-cheat even more so the next chapter of Warzone doesn’t get off to a rocky start.
