When Bizarre Creations became an Activision owned development studio last week PGR fans over the world gasped for air. While Microsoft was quick to state that the series would continue, the game was out of Bizarre’s hands and this was enough for many to effectively call PGR4 the last game in the series.

Today Bizzare Creations has clarified to Pro-G exactly who owns what now Microsoft and Bizarre have parted. According to Bizarre’s Ben Ward, Community & Web Lead, “Microsoft owns everything that is “final” in the game. All art assets, all the binaries, etc. Bizarre retain our internal tools, staff members, working practices, etc.”

So what does that mean for Bizarre’s first Activision published racer? According to Ward their “next racing project is effectively starting from a blank slate; all we take is our experience working with the Xbox 360, and our (pretty extensive) toolset. This isn’t a problem for us at all – quite the opposite in fact. It allows us to push in brand new directions which previously weren’t possible under the PGR banner.”

With PGR4 Bizarre has created a truly stunning next-gen racer (look out for our review on Monday), but it’s clear that moving onto something new will give them a chance to flex their racing muscle in a different direction.
