The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim players who can’t play the game properly due to bugs “have every right to be pissed off,” according to Bethesda game director Todd Howard.
Speaking to Game Informer at the DICE Summit earlier this month, Howard expressed how Skyrim is still the company’s most solid release, and how the team is committed to fixing everything – something already evident by the fact more updates have been released for Skyrim than either Fallout 3 or Oblivion in their lifetime.
“We can always do a better job. All of our internal and external data show that it’s our most solid release, including the PS3 version. But it’s also our most successful. The percentage of people that have a problem on any particular system ends up a low percentage, but the raw number ends up being larger than we would have expected,” said Howard.
“When you put all this time into something and someone can’t play it, you feel terrible,” Howard added. “They have every right to be pissed off. We already have more updates out for this than Fallout 3 and Oblivion in their lifetime. So we’re really committed to fixing everything.”
Howard also expressed how useful the Steam beta program has been and how thankful Bethesda is for the support fans have given the studio.
“The main thing we did learn, now that we have the beta program on Steam, because we realised that no matter what we do internally, we have 10 million people playing the game and their saves are in all sorts of states…. So that was new for us.
“Our fans have been awesome. They have been great with us and they’re helping us do that. What we do in the future I don’t know yet. It’s something we’re going to look into.”
