From captivating plots to complex characters to kick-ass action. These shows set themselves apart from their genre peers and offer a viewing experience that worthy of high praise.

So, fire up the anime signal and light up the sky (sorry Batman, we’ll steer clear of Gotham City), and assemble your nearest and dearest to watch all these amazing anime shows on Crunchyroll right now.

Jujutsu Kaisen [TV-MA rating]

Yuji Itadori has his life forever altered after joining his high school’s occult club as he soon discovers the truth surrounding the cursed items.

With his friends targeted by a living curse brought by a cursed talisman named “The Finger of Sukuna”. He is forced to consume the cursed object in order to survive and protect those around him.

In so doing, he unintentionally becomes the new vessel for Sukuna. Branded for execution by jujutsu sorcerers, Yuji submits himself to a life of exorcising curses.

Jujutsu Kaisen is a sensational anime as it breaks the traditional mould set by most Shounen anime which typically focus on a main protagonist and their rival frenemy.

But Jujutsu Kaisen instead shines a spotlight on the supporting cast, giving each of their stories weight and value.

In addition to breaking the traditional male gaze storytelling of Shounen anime and manga by featuring greatly written, memorable female characters.

It’s said your story is only as interesting as the characters who progress through it, and Jujutsu Kaisen understands this better than most and delivers tenfold.

Chainsaw Man [TV-MA rating]

Denji is a young boy who works as a devil hunter alongside the Chainsaw Devil, Pochita. Together, they work to pay off the debt inherited from his parents, a miserable life that eventually leads to betrayal and Denji’s untimely demise.

As his consciousness fades, he strikes a deal with Pochita, his only friend, and is resurrected as the “Chainsaw Man”. The owner of the devil’s heart and the wielder of its terrifying power.

Beloved anime shows have many elements that fans adore. Whether it’s cncredible fight sequences that leave you astonished. Or, the breathtaking art style that spectacularly captures the world of the show.

But for Chainsaw Man, it is Denji who stands out as the heart and soul of the show. With his simplistic nature setting him apart from his contemporaries who often carry within them passionate and world shaping goals and dreams.

Denji, however, is more relatable and honest in that he wants what many of us want, to simply live a happy and carefree life.

Oh, and occasionally fondle some boobs (consensually of course! He’s not a creep).

Spy x Family [TV-14 rating]

With world peace at stake, secret agent, Twilight, tackles his most difficult mission yet. Disguising himself as an ordinary husband and father.

But, his perfect cover is soon complicated by his pretend wife actually being a deadly assassin, with neither of them aware of the other’s true identity.

As the only one who knows their true identities is their adopted daughter, who happens to be a telepath!

At first glance, Spy x Family comes across as one of those terrible pub jokes, “A spy, an assassin, and a telepath walk into a barâ€Ĥ”

But Spy x Family proves the old adage of “don’t judge a book by its cover”. As it has an impeccably great plot that is full of unexpected twists coupled with romance and moments of daring do.

And then there is Anya, who catapults straight to the front of the “best-written child character in anime” list. (Absolutely a real list and no, do not try to verify itâ€Ĥ)

Afro Samurai [TV-MA rating]

In a futuristic feudal Japan, only two rules govern society. The owner of the number one headband rules the world, and only the number two headband owner can challenge for it.

Seeing his father brutally murdered at the hands of the number two headband owner, Justice, as a child. Afro vows to avenge his father and reclaim the number one headband, leading him down a bloodied lifelong path of revenge.

Afro Samurai holds an exceptionally meaningful place in my heart. As it not only helped bridge a cultural gap in the early 00’s, but showcased that not only can African American-inspired anime have a place. It can actively thrive, find success, and become just as beloved as eastern anime.

The show is renowned for its incredible, fast-paced, and beautifully animated fight sequences. As well as sporting one of the greatest anime soundtracks of all time thanks to the Wu-Tang’s own, the RZA.

Additionally, Afro is voiced by Samuel L. Jackson (who would return several times to voice Afro including a sequel series, and video game adaptation), bringing a nobility and authenticity to the wandering ronin.
