Baldur’s Gate 3 was the best game of 2023, and many would argue it’s the greatest RPG of all time. It’s a brilliant experience, and it’s still one of the most exciting games a year later, especially with official mod support coming out soon. Larian earned over a dozen awards last year, and the success hasn’t stopped as Baldur’s Gate 3 has just won another best game award to add to its trophy collection.

Although BG3 has just turned a year old, there’s still plenty more to anticipate soon. We’re not getting any DLC or premium expansions, but patch 7 is planned for September. This will bring mod support to PC along with the ability to download mods on PS5 and Xbox consoles. Not only will we be getting mods, but patch 7 will also introduce more evil endings.

We cannot wait for patch 7 to arrive, but right now Larian is celebrating the one year anniversary of Baldur’s Gate 3. In honor of its one year anniversary, Larian has shared new player statistics, and BG3 has just won another best game award.

Baldur’s Gate 3 wins another best game award

At the Hugo Awards on August 11th, 2024, Baldur’s Gate 3 won the Best Game or Interactive Work category. It beat Alan Wake 2, Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom, Star Wars Jedi Survivor, Dredge, and Chants of Sennaar.

If you’re unfamiliar with the Hugo Awards, it is a celebration of sci-fi/fantasy literature that has been presented annually since 1955. Awards are voted on by members of the World Science Fiction Convention/Worldcon.

Reacting to its win at the Hugo Awards, fans on Reddit reacted with no surprise at all. One of the replies says, “this is the most famous (among general people) award BG3 has won yet, and we all have such award fatigue we’re all just going, ‘cool. Next?'”. Another reply says, “Enter ‘I can’t stop winning’ gif”.

Earlier this year, Baldur’s Gate 3 became the first game to win every major game of the year award which includes the BAFTAs, The Game Awards, Golden Joystick Awards, D.I.C.E Awards, and Game Developer Choice Awards. In total, it has won over 32 awards making it one of the most prestigious games of all time.

Unfortunately, despite the success of BG3, we won’t be getting a sequel from Larian. Larian nearly made Baldur’s Gate 4 with parts of it playable, but the team ultimately decided they didn’t want to spend another three years on it.

While it’s disappointing that there will be no BG4 from Larian, the good news is that the developer is cooking up some great new RPG experiences. Larian is currently working on two new RPGs simultaneously, and they both have the same ambition and scale of BG3.

In other gaming news, the PS Plus August 2024 Extra and Premium games will be revealed soon.
