Baldur’s Gate 3’s huge download size could have players waiting for days to play with no preload option available.

While the game was initially scheduled for a launch at the end of August, this date was brought forward much to the excitement of the PC players. However, while this did excite many, it also became apparent that there was going to be no preload nor 72-hour head start available for the game’s release.

Larian Studio’s latest game has a whopping download size – over 120GB for the full game – which is a lot. Of course, the game is going to packed with an equally well-stocked inventory of content, environments, quests and adventures to make it worth it, but there’s no denying that the download size is going to be an inconvenience for many.

Turning to Reddit, despite the inconvenience, the community have taken it on their chin. “If you have slow internet, launch day is August 4th,” /u/havelok stated, while others have mocked the lack of patience that the online world has heralded.

“Back in my day you had to travel 2 hours via car with low safety standards to a big box store in the next town. then you had to convince the old lady running the counter that no, you weren’t going to use said videogame to summon the devil,” one smarmy commenter said.

The above image records just how long it it’s going to take for one prospective player to download the full game, and figured out that with their schedule they’re going to be able to play by next Wednesday.

The lack of preload is partly due to the nature of the existing Early Access for the game, with the implementation of a preload being more hassle than it’s worth.

However, spirits are high. Despite the huge download size – it’s clear that fans of the game are going to cherish their experience rolling the dice, and that the experience is all going to be worth it when the game is in their hands.
