RPG fans are in for a treat, as it looks like the original two Baldur’s Gate 1 and Baldur’s Gate 2 are set to arrive on the Game Pass service imminently ahead of the release of the third game.
According to Idle Sloth on Twitter, a number of users have reported getting a mobile notification from the Game Pass app that claims the two classic RPGs are now available on Xbox Game Pass. The message reportedly reads “New Games Unleashed! Baldur’s Gate and Baldur’s Gate 2 have been let loose! Play thse games and more with Game Pass.” In addition, a number of users in other languages have reported on Reddit getting the same notification despite there being no announcement as such about the games arriving on the service just yet from Xbox.
We’ve checked ourselves on the Xbox app on PC and console, but the games do not seem to be available on there at the time of writing. So it’s currently unclear whether this is only in certain regions, or if it’s still to be announced by Xbox and the alert has gone out a little early. However, the timing would certainly make sense, as the Baldur’s Gate 3 PC launch time is almost upon us as the newest game will be launching on PC this week. It’s also not clear if this Game Pass release is just on the PC, or the Baldur’s Gate and Baldur’s Gate 2 Enhanced Editions that launched for the Xbox back in 2019.
There’d certainly be a lot of people interested in trying out earlier games in the series, given the hype around the new one, and it could help spend some of the time as people are waiting for the hefty Baldur’s Gate 3 download. They’re both widely regarded as two of the best RPGs of all time, coming from veterans Bioware.
