Assassin’s Creed Mirage, Ubisoft’s upcoming stealth adventure installment, marks a return to the series’ roots as the game’s design, lore, and gameplay will seemingly forego the massive scale of recent entries for a more intimate and story-heavy setting. In addition, the developers have now also revealed that they’ll be including a new in-game feature that harks back to the beginning of Assassin’s Creed called the History of Baghdad mode.

According to Ubisoft’s official announcement, the Assassin’s Creed Mirage History of Baghdad mode “will be integrated into the main game” much like how the Database was introduced in earlier games. This feature will also apparently be “tied to player progression, with an in-game reward for Basim once completed,” meaning this should at least motivate players to locate all of these historical snippets in order to unlock the rare reward that comes with it.

There will apparently be a total of 66 historical sites that players can visit throughout Baghdad with each one tied to a specific topic, namely Economy, Beliefs and Daily Life, Government, Art and Science, and Court Life. Based on additional information provided, it seems the tidbits of informations you’ll be able to find scattered throughout Baghdad consist of details on various cultural landmarks, practices, and objects that’ll give you an even deeper look into the country’s past.

In order to make these historical details as accurate as possible, Dr. Raphaël Weyland, an expert on Middle Eastern history, apparently joined Ubisoft specifically to work on Assassin’s Creed Mirage. Aside from making each entry as accurate and details as possible, most of his work also focused on “finding culturally and historically authentic elements for inclusion in the game as well as reviewing aspects of it for coherence with the setting.”

With all of these authentic elements coming together to form a core part of the game’s design, it seems likely that this project is going to be one of the more memorable entries in the series’ recent history. For now, though, you’ll just have to remain patient until the Assassin’s Creed Mirage release date rolls around to find out more about the History of Baghdad mode.
