Nintendo has announced it has delayed the planned April release of Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp on the Nintendo Switch.

In a brief statement posted to Twitter, the company said the following. “In light of recent world events, we have made the decision to delay Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp, which was originally scheduled to release on Nintendo Switch on 08/04. Please stay tuned for updates on a new release date.”

Although not directly mentioned, it’s safe to assume the company is referencing the current conflict in Ukraine. Russian forces invaded the country a couple of weeks ago, and fighting between the countries in Europe is still ongoing. Clearly, Nintendo thought it wasn’t the best time to be releasing a game depicting war during a real-life conflict.

The conflict between the two countries has resulted in many displays of support for Ukraine from the games industry. These have included moves like donations to aid charities, and removing games on sale in the regions of Russia and Belarus. Earlier this week, indie developers released a bundle of almost 1000 games on storefront Itch.io to support the country. The Bundle for Ukraine has already raised over $2.5 million dollars at the time of writing.

Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp is a remake of the first two Advance Wars games, originally released for the GBA. Nintendo has not offered a new release date for the game for now.
