Howard Marks bought the Acclaim name in August 2005, and is a strong believer in the brand and intends to return Acclaim to its former glory. Acclaim Games is essentially a completely new company and will be focusing on offering free online games, with various business models which include in-game advertising and the ability for gamers to purchase in-game items with real money.

The first game to be released by the new Acclaim Games will be BOTS, a free multiplayer online game, featuring hundreds of upgrades that can be purchased, offering a huge scope for customisation. Players of the game will be able to purchase new parts using a variety of means, including real money or the game’s own digital currency.

Acclaim Games is passionate about gaming and committed to delivering the best online games available to the world. These games were created to captivate the community and provide a positive and fun multiplayer experience,” said Marks, who helped revive Activision in the nineties. “BOTS is a title that will appeal to everyone with colourful, highly elaborate and detailed environments. BOTS features evolving and upgradeable robots, multiple levels and three different versions of game play. So it really grows with you.

That’s where the fun really begins with BOTS. The upgrades will allow gamers to really make a personal statement with their characters,” said Ken Chan, the BOTS Brand Manager. “And the interface is so simple, we expect that a lot of new gamers will find this to be a very accessible and really fun online game.

A beta of BOTS is now open for registration, and availability will be limited so sign up now at www.botsgame.com. The final game is scheduled to go live in the spring.
