Team Cherry has announced that the highly anticipated Hollow Knight Silksong won’t make the first half of 2023, and fans will have to wait a little bit longer to get their hands on the hugely successful metroidvania follow-up.

The news was revealed by Matthew Griffin, who’s in charge of the marketing and publishing of the game at the studio – and he revealed the news via Twitter. Just last June, when Silksong was announced as coming to the Game Pass service, the developer teased that the game would be coming ‘in the next twelve’ months. But as that deadline nears and we reach June once more, it seems that’ll no longer be the case.

“Hey gang, just a quick update about Silksong,” Griffin wrote. “We had planned to release in the 1st half of 2023, but development is still continuing. We’re excited by how the game is shaping up, and it’s gotten quite big, so we want to take the time to make the game as good as we can. Expect more details from us once we get closer to release.”

Silksong fans are growing used to the wait – the sequel was first announced all the way back in 2019 to great excitement, especially with how beloved the first game was. It’s now been six years since that first game released, letting players fight and explore a haunting insect-like world, trying to save their kingdom from a zombie-like virus.

Since then, of course – fans have been chomping at the bit to get their hands on the follow-up, oftentimes filling the comments of every Nintendo presentation such as Indie Worlds or Nintendo Direct. For now, it looks like this’ll continue – as no new window has yet been set for the game. Whenever it does release, Hollow Knight Silksong will be available on Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch and PC.
