  • Ranked Play will not arrive at launch on May 21, 2024.
  • Expect it to arrive after the six-week Preseason, which ends on July 2, 2024.
  • Ubisoft has confirmed that it will compare players based on Rank Points, latency, and other factors.

While casual players are glad that Ubisoft’s new arena shooter won’t force skill-based matchmaking on them, there’s a more competitive mode on the way. Players who want tight rounds against similarly skilled opponents will be able to hone their skills in XDefiant’s Ranked Play. Here’s when you can expect to dive into this mode in-game.

Our estimated release date for Ranked Play

In a blog post, Ubisoft confirmed that Ranked Play will not be released at launch. Instead, it will be launched in a “future season.” Considering that the game’s Preseason starts on May 21, 2024, and will go on for six weeks, we expect it to arrive with Season 1 on July 2, 2024.

According to Ubisoft, this mode “prioritizes quality matches; it will wait longer for appropriate players. It is segmented by Rank levels and will only match players within Rank range. It also employs latency and region preferences where possible.” They have also implemented an Input Device lock to prevent players from “joining with the wrong input device to trick the matchmaker.”

Ranked Play matchmaking factors

Ubisoft has confirmed they will use the following factors for this competitive mode:

  • Rank Points (RP): Only matches players within acceptable Rank range, earned by winning matches.
  • Latency: Prefers similar pings among players in a match.
  • Party Size: Prefers to match squads against squads of a similar size.
  • Region: Prefers players from the same region/language to minimize latency.
  • Input Device: Prefers players using the same input method to keep games balanced.
  • Platform: Prefers players using the same platform between PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.
