Mages are one of the strongest classes in Dragonflight. However, not all of its specs can be the best. Just like how different mage specs are suitable for leveling up with friends, solo leveling, and for PvP modes, just like that some specs are better than others when it comes to WoW’s PvE content.
With the introduction of the game’s newest expansion, Dragonflight, and the launch of its first season, there has been a flow of new players to match the amount of new content in the game.
Unfortunately, not all of them are familiar with which specs they should go with, and we’re here to help with that. We’ll be talking about our recommended mage spec for PvE, as well as informing you of its pros, cons, and other information to keep in mind.
Which Mage Spec is the Best for PvE in Dragonflight?
The best mage spec for PvE in Dragonflight specifically is Fire. Not only are they very fun to play as, but they can pack a serious punch. Not only do they deal heavy, single target damage but they also dish out multitarget mob damage.
Regardless of whether it’s a raid or a dungeon encounter, the Fire Mage’s mobility and adaptability are unmatched when compared to the other mage specs. Add in the amazing combination of cauterize and blazing barrier, and you have yourself the survivability required to go the distance in whatever PvE content you’re going up against.
What all of these above factors basically mean is that Fire Mages have incredible mobility, as well as the survivability to back it up. Not only that, but they also have a decent attack range which makes it so you don’t even have to put yourself in harms way most of the time. But even when you do, you have extremely high damage single- and multi-target abilities to get you out of sticky situations. What’s not to love?
What are the disadvantages in using the Fire Mage spec?
Now that we’ve gone through all the pros of Fire Mages, it’s very important that we go through some of the things you have to look out for as well. Perhaps the biggest downside of playing as a Fire Mage is the extremely long cooldown you have to face when using some of the more useful abilities.
Although this spec does have very good defensive potential that can allow players to survive while waiting for cooldowns, it’s still highly probable that players might find themselves overwhelmed while their abilities are on a timer.
Finally, Fire Mages are known to struggle a lot when faced with enemies that do high melee damage. Without any backup, you might quickly find yourself with low health if you let a close-range combatant get too close.
Final Thoughts
Despite all the shortcomings of the Fire Mage, we believe that the pros far outweigh the cons. Of course, as it is with any class or spec, the most important thing is that you put in the time and effort required to master all of this spec’s abilities to ensure you’re ready the next time you play one of the many PvE modes Dragonflight has.
