One of the most popular classes available in the game is the mage class. However, as it is with every other class, not all the available mage specs are suitable for PvP (both arenas and battlegrounds).

Seeing as how it’s important to know a decent bit about all the specs before deciding on which one suits you best, we’ll be going through all the available mage specs in Dragonflight, all the while telling you all of their pros and cons when it comes to PvP.

Best Mage Spec for PvP Arenas and PvP Battlegrounds in Dragonflight

Arcane Mage

By far the least recommended mage spec for both PvP arenas as well as PvP battlegrounds is the Arcane spec. The reason for this is that although an Arcane mage specializes in outsmarting enemies, that mostly just applies to computer controlled enemies and not actual players.

This is because the abilities become way too predictable, not only because the burst damage itself can be easily foreseen, but also because arcane mages have only one major casting school.

This isn’t to say that arcane mages aren’t usable at all in PvP modes, but we do believe the other two are better both in arenas and battlegrounds.

Frost Mage

Now that the Arcane spec is out of the way, let’s get into the two leading PvP specs starting with frost. The Frost Mage is the best spec when it comes to PvP battlegrounds, and there are multiple reasons for this.

The biggest reason we say Frost is the best for PvP battlegrounds is that this spec offers a variety of abilities that snare, root, and mitigate damage. Not only that, but the spec also has some really good AoE abilities that can help you survive even if you end up without any backup.

With short burst cooldowns and strong crowd control, Frost mages are capable of controlling entire teams, and with the Dragonflight expansion giving this spec even more control and utility than before, there hasn’t been a better time to play as a Frost mage than now.

Fire Mage

We’ll be as frank as possible. If you’re a Fire mage and you have partners that focus on melee attacks, then you’ll be more useful than both of the other mages combined in PvP arenas. Because of this, the Fire mage is the most recommended spec when it comes to PvP arenas.

Fire mages have a wide variety of abilities which make it so that your moves are almost never predictable. Not only this, but this spec offers the greatest amount of mobility, greater than both the other two mage specs. Because of this the most ideal style of play in PvP arenas is adapting a hit and run strategy.

Finally, being able to use arcane and frost techniques in addition to their natural fire type abilities gives fire mages unmatched versatility.

Final Thoughts

Now that you know which mage specs to go for when opting to play PvP arenas or PvP battlegrounds, all that’s left to do is to jump into a game for yourself. After all, practice makes perfect.
