  • The Val 5 error in Valorant is most often caused by servers undergoing maintenance.
  • However, if the servers are up, two other potential causes include being logged in on another device, or your account being banned.

The VAL 5 error code is one of the many error codes you can encounter in Valorant, signifying a common issue within the game. This particular error is related to server issues, most commonly official server maintenance. While there’s not much you can do about servers going down for maintenance, there’s an alternative cause that could be the reason you’re getting this error message.

What does the VAL 5 error code mean?

The Valorant VAL 5 error code means that players have lost connection to the servers, and occurs when official server maintenance begins. If players are in an active game when scheduled maintenance starts, they will automatically be thrown out of the game to the main menu screen, where this message will then appear. If players attempt to log into the game during a time of ongoing maintenance, they’ll also encounter this message.

However, Valorant’s official support page states that this error message will appear when you’re logged into your account elsewhere. This is in contrast to the error message that you’ll see when you’re kicked out of the game, but is worth paying attention to nonetheless.

Lastly, you will get a VAL 5 error if your account has been banned due to suspicious activity, such as using cheats. Immediately after receiving a ban, you’ll be kicked from the game and get this error message. The same goes if you try logging back in.

How to fix VAL 5 error code

Wait for server maintenance to complete

Luckily, this means that there’s not much to worry about. The code is the result of official activity, not a bug or an unexpected server issue. All you need to do if you encounter this code is wait until server maintenance concludes, after which you should be able to reconnect to the Valorant servers without any issues. Check Valorant’s server status to find out if the game’s servers are back online.

Log out from other devices

If you’re sure that the servers are online, then there’s a likely case that you’re logged in with your Riot ID on another device. For example, perhaps you were playing a round of Teamfight Tactics on your phone while waiting in queue. In that case, Valorant Support suggests that you log out from other devices and try logging back into Valorant. You can also check your internet connection and see if there are any issues with connectivity on your end.

Send a ticket to support

And finally, if you have been suspected of cheating and other unsavoury behaviour, then there isn’t much you can do about it if you’re guilty. But, if you have been wrongfully banned, you can open a ticket with Valorant Support and state your case. Work with the support team to clear your account’s status and get reinstated.
