- Switch to a private lobby by changing the Public setting on-screen to Private before entering a zone.
While you can’t clear players from the Albion base, there is a way to play missions and even boss fights solo in The First Descendant. It involves entering a lobby that creates an instance of the game just for you and your friends if you invite them. This can make those outpost missions easier to access before other players finish them and trigger their 5-minute cooldowns. Here’s how you can enter a private lobby.
How to switch to a private lobby
Before entering a region, simply pick a location and change the Public option on the top left of your screen to Private. For example, pick Sterile Land, Vespers, or any other region, and change this setting before using a fast travel point there to teleport. You can’t do this after entering a zone so you’ll have to do it from another location.
This option is present for longer dungeons and Void Intercept battles as well, letting you opt out of public matchmaking. That means that you can take on foes like the Devourer solo if you think teammates will only drag you down. Health and damage scaling works differently in solo mode, which can benefit you if you’re proficient at the game. The Dead Bride in particular is easier to beat without teammates. But remember that some bosses like the Hanged Man need at least two players to defeat.
Should you play solo in a private lobby?
This comes down to personal preference. The basic missions don’t seem to adjust for player count the way boss fights do. That means that you can farm missions for Gold and resources faster, even with random players. You will be able to clear outposts without someone else finishing it and triggering the 5-minute cooldown. Infiltration missions are easier with a solo Sharen using her stealth ability.
At the same time, bosses gain health if many players join in. This can prove disadvantageous if the random players are at a lower level or do not understand the boss fight’s mechanics. We recommend playing the game on public servers and switching to solo mode only when necessary. This is because the game is built around cooperative play and public lobbies. You can also opt for a separate lobby and invite friends over. This will let you play the game with your squad without other players distracting you.
