  • Get this resource from Encrypted Vaults in the Agna Desert.
  • You can also earn it from Agna Desert missions but the drops are very rare.

With level 100+ bosses awaiting you, your level 40 Descendants need better gear to catch up. So when it comes to the endgame, few resources matter as much as Mixed Energy Residue in The First Descendant. It lets you reset your characters and enhance their stats, preparing you for the road ahead. Here’s how you can get this resource and why it’s important to grind for it.

Where can you get Mixed Energy Residue?

You can open Encrypted Vaults in the Agna Desert region to get Mixed Energy Residue. You’ll need to use Code Analyzers (from enemy drops) to interact with these training dummy-like chests and clear a hacking minigame to access their rewards. They drop 4 or more of these items at a time. Here are all the vaults in this location:

  • Encrypted Storage Box at the Vermilion Waste
  • Encrypted Storage Box (Enzo)
  • Precise Encrypted Vault at the Vermilion Waste
  • Precise Encrypted Vault (Enzo)
  • Ultraprecise Encrypted Vault at Miragestone
  • Ultraprecise Encrypted Vault (Enzo)

Since you need the Descendant Enzo to open three of these six options, we hunted down the three locations that are accessible to all characters in the game. A new update has made it possible for players to earn this material simply by clearing missions in the Agna Desert region but we haven’t gotten any drops this way so far. You can also earn this resource once from the “Something can be Improved” quest from the robot instructor to the right of Albion’s starting area to make a free Crystallization Catalyst when you reach Mastery Rank 12. On the flip side, vault drops have been tripled, making it worth your time to track these down for Mixed Energy Residue. Check the maps below to learn where you can find them.

The first Encrypted Vault (the yellow circle on the left side of the map) can be found in a straight line between the main spawn area and the transporter to the northwest of the region. Keep going towards it and you’ll find it near a rock outcropping. Use your Ecive scanner and you’ll know you’re heading in the right direction if it gives you a loud beep. Remember that these chests respawn in under a minute so come back if you don’t find it.

The second Encrypted Vault is in the Vermilion Waste once more. It’s to the left side of the main spawn. You’ll need to jump down a small hole and walk around to find it. Once you do, you’ll need a Precision Code Analyzer to open it. This hole can be tricky to find so we’ve marked it in the map above. It’s the yellow circle to the right, the one closest to the Vermilion Waste spawn point.

Finally, the third one is in the Miragestone area in Agna Desert. You’ll know this segment of platforms well if you’ve cleared the final story mission here. Make your way to the giant floating cube and once you’re inside it, you’ll reach a hole where a blue platform will take you to the right. Head left instead and you’ll find the vault. Remember that you’ll need the Ultra-Precision Code Analyzer item to open this one. The rarer the analyzer requirement, the harder the hacking minigame is while opening these chests.

Is it worth farming Mixed Energy Residue?

While vaults give you plenty of rewards, this material is essential if you want to create Crystallization Catalysts. These can be used to reset your weapons and characters to improve their stats. If you want to take down Void Intercept bosses like the fearsome Frost Walker, you’ll need to do this to stand a chance. Pair this with Energy Activators to improve your module capacity as well. This is important in the endgame but there’s no harm in discovering a bunch of vaults to keep these materials ready.
