- To beat the Frost Walker, a single player must pick up five flames after damaging its weak spots.
- This triggers a heat shield that will protect nearby allies from the freeze attack when the timer hits 7:30.
With a max character level of 40 and a max weapon level of 100, it’s no surprise that a level 126 boss is wiping the floor with experienced players in The First Descendant. In addition to a devastating insta-freeze attack that triggers at specific intervals, the Frost Walker fight relies on embers that drop mid-fight. Using them is no longer a puzzle as YouTuber Vahlkx has figured out how to beat the boss.
How to defeat the Frost Walker – guide and explanation
First off, you’re going to need the best modules for your weapons. Buckle up with Energy Activators to gain more module slots for your Descendant as well. That’s because you need to damage the Frost Walker’s weak spots enough for them to drop embers. These curious pickups grant a flames buff but that’s not their main function. To trigger a special shield ability, one player needs to gather five of these items. If multiple players grab them, the shield won’t appear. So designate a runner to pick these up. But don’t do that right as they drop as embers don’t disappear. Instead, you’ll want to wait for the timer to approach the 7:50 mark.
That’s because when the timer hits 7:30, the Frost Walker unleashes a deadly ice attack that freezes every player instantly. To counter this, your runner needs to pick up five embers to trigger a heat shield with a medium-sized radius. And yes, this heat shield is temporary and has a limited duration. If your teammates huddle near this runner, they won’t be affected by the freeze move.
If you don’t drop enough embers in time, there’s no way you can outrun the map-wide freeze attack.
Remember that enemy attacks can knock off ember stacks, making it harder to generate the heat shield. The runner can also sprint towards frozen foes to unfreeze them. This will save your team some time and let you dish out more damage against the boss’ humongous health pool. The second freeze attack triggers at under 5 minutes but most teams should take out the boss before that.
Player murateryuce2125 called it “the stupidest mechanic you could make” as it focuses on comms, making it a situation where friends would have an easier time. It’s not easy to get a stranger to be a runner and protect allies with the flame mechanic. They also suggest that Nexon should turn it into an individual shield like the first Legion raid’s blue orbs in Lost Ark. While this tense fight won’t be to everyone’s liking, it makes the game challenging for endgame players who have already farmed for the best characters and gear. Another player DrunkDjinn noted that “This boss is a console player’s nightmare” as the speedy boss makes it near-impossible to target the Frost Walker’s weak spots. And if you don’t drop enough embers in time, there’s no way you can outrun the map-wide freeze attack. It’s a challenge that will become easier as more players encounter it. For now, Vahlkx’s strategy is a great way to survive this frozen abomination’s deadly attacks.
