- Secure the Matrix Recomputation mod in the Caligo Ossuary mission in the Agna Desert region.
- It modifies Expulsion to buff allies’ Defense and max Shield temporarily.
As you refine your Ajax builds, you’ll come across missions that drop Matrix Recomputation in The First Descendant. While it’s a Transcendant mod with a steep cost, it can drastically improve your build, especially against Void Intercept bosses. Here’s where you can get this mod and how you can use it in-game.
Where can you get Matrix Recomputation?
You can obtain the Matrix Recomputation module for Ajax in the Caligo Ossuary mission in the Agna Desert. No other characters can use this besides Ajax and Ultimate Ajax. It modifies the Expulsion ability and grants a buff that helps allies survive. It offers 50% Defense and 100% max Shield buffs for you and allies for 10 seconds when you trigger this ability.
Caligo Ossuary first tasks you with going past three sets of rotating laser walls after clearing some surveillance zones. After that, clear waves of foes to encounter the Elite Vulgus War-Slave boss. Clear this quick boss fight and your Guide will instruct you to activate the Decryption Protocol by destroying three Vulgus Technology Devices scattered across the stage. Each of their health bars has two parts separated by an immunity phase where you need to clear all enemies in the area. Once this is done, Sigvore the Blast Hunter will show up with poison bombs and barrels. Keep moving and you’ll be able to take this boss down. Complete the mission by interacting with the terminal to access the Ancestors’ data.
While other Agna Desert missions also drop this module, we managed to secure the module in the mission mentioned above despite it only having a 1.6% drop chance. You can try the other missions but they all have low odds of dropping this particular item. Since the campaign will have you running through most of these missions, you’re bound to end up with this module eventually.

Is it worth getting Matrix Recomputation for Ajax?
Here are the key stats of the module:
- Capacity Cost: 16
- Module Socket Type: Cerulean
- Module Class: Descendant
- Effect: 50% Defense and 100% max Shield buffs for you and allies for 10 seconds when you trigger Expulsion.
While this module does have a steep capacity cost, it drastically enhances Ajax’s kit. As he’s already focused on defenses and protecting allies from damage, this improves his suitability for the role. It’s particularly effective while fighting bosses like the Devourer. And if you manage to use an Energy Activator to improve his module capacity, you’ll have no problem with slotting this in. You can also place it on a socket with a Cerulean symbol on it to reduce the capacity cost by half.
