Does Stellar Blade have New Game Plus?

  • Stellar Blade does have New Game Plus, which is unlocked once you finish the game
  • Once you clear the game, you can use your save file to start fresh.
  • You carry over everything in New Game Plus as well as get boosted abilities and skills to play around with

Stellar Blade’s New Game Plus was added to the game in a small update. The New Game Plus mode is actually pretty substantial compared to others as it lets you carry over a lot of stuff from your first playthrough. Better yet, it adds new elements to the game, from new Beta skills and difficulty levels, to new costumes and cosmetics for the protagonist Eve 07 and her Expospine. Here’s what’s in New Game+ in Stellar Blade.

As per the PlayStation Blog, New Game+ brings with it a number of additions, the most notable being a higher level cap for EVE 07’s items and equipment to harder difficulty levels designed to encourage another playthrough. Obviously, as this game has multiple endings, this dovetails nicely to tease you back in to Stellar Blade once you’ve completed your first run. Once you complete the game, there are a number of gear upgades available for EVE 07, aimed at giving you a fresh playstyle to trial in the next playthrough. This Mk2 equipment is much stronger than before, so you will have plenty more options to flesh out your kit when you get into New Game Plus.

Elsewhere, are a number of special abilities are also made available. These include five new Drone Skills, four Beta Skills and improved Infinite Skills. The Infinite Slash beta skill unleashes a devastating whirlwind attack on your foe, while Infinite Pierce, which is an enhancement to Quadruplet, causes enemies to stumble back. Infinite Breaker can also be used to disable enemy shields.

Away from gameplay, developer Shift Up has added new wardrobe, accessories and cosmetics for EVE 07 and her chums, Lily, the drone and Adam – all completely free. To unlock them, you need to power through and complete the game, where they’ll then be available to buy at SP0-tt2r’s store. There are 34 cosmetic items for EVE 07 to collect and equip.

How do you access New Game Plus?

As you might expect, you can access New Game Plus in Stellar Blade after you finish the game. While there are three different endings, you can go into your next game via New Game Plus regardless of the ending you receive. In our playthrough, we got the return to the colony ending and this didn’t affect anything.

Mk2 gear can save the day

Collect and combine Mk2 gear if you’re getting overpowered by enemies on harder difficulty settings.

What can you carry over in New Game Plus?

When you select New Game Plus in the menu, you will see a pop-up explaining what is being carried over. From this, we know you get to retain all your equipment, currency, items and records, character enhancements, drone upgrades, learned skills, and any SP you have left over. This is a fairly generous amount to carry over, but it also means that there will be duplicates of everything in the new game cycle. You will still find the same memory sticks as before and you can also continue to pick up Body and Beta Cores to increase your HP and Beta Energy.

Is there anything different in New Game Plus?

When you begin New Game Plus in Stellar Blade, you immediately unlock new skills in your skill tree. Some of these are enhanced versions of your Beta Skills while the others are more upgrades to your Burst Skills. Outside of this, you will find new, stronger versions of the Gear and Exospines you picked up in your first playthrough dotted around, which will come in handy if you’re playing on a harder difficulty level. You can also upgrade your weapon using Weapon Cores more in New Game Plus, along with continuing to increase the amount of charges your Rechargeable Tumbler healing item has.

Stellar Blade launched to a mixed bag of reviews on launch in April. I gave the game 6/10 in my Stellar Blade review, highlighting a bland story and a few cut corners. The combat, though, is fantastic, and it’s great to se New Game Plus lean into what I think is the best part of this game.
