Your first visit to the Garbage region takes you to the detention center to link up with Star and his men. He’ll send you to the Factory to find Nestor as part of the Answers Come at a Price main mission. But before setting off, there’s a locked door leading into the basement below where the group is stationed on the first floor. In this guide, we’ll walk you through where to find the Detention Center basement key location in Stalker 2.
Where to find the Detention Center basement key location
If you talk to the soldier stationed outside of the room with the bunk beds on the first floor and choose ‘What is this place?’, he’ll mention there’s something in the basement. More importantly, he’s been told the key is somewhere on the ground floor.

To get the Detention Center basement key, you’ll need to loot a desk located in a small office room in the southeast of the building. We’ve pinpointed the exact location in the image gallery above. Head down the stairs from Star and his crew’s HQ, exit the building, walk across the yard with the metal gangways, then take a left into the doorway. The room is straight ahead on your left. Enter and you’ll find the Heavy Key on the top shelf underneath the desk. A thermal anomaly roams the corridors so get in and out quickly.

How to open the Basement in the Detention Centre
Head back to the entrance that leads to Star, but instead of going up the stairs, go down and use the key on the locked door at the bottom. Head through and into the basement. Take a left into the first room, then immediately right, and you’ll spot an anomaly spewing fire from the ground. Next to it is a body. Loot it to get the Old Key then get out of the basement.

Go back to the soldier outside Star’s HQ and follow the corridor. Veer right, then follow it straight until you spot a red double door on your right. Use the Old Key to open it. Inside the room, you’ll find a variety of loot including bandages, medkits, grenades, and ammo.
