There is a bug present in 1.0 update of Satisfactory that prevents the Coal Generator from taking Coal of an input belt. While there are no official solutions, you can try the following community fixes:
- Take a single stack of Coal off the adjoining conveyor belt.
- Manually input Coal into the generator from your inventory.
- Save the game, exit to main menu, then reload the save, without interacting with the Coal Generator.
There isn’t a game out there that doesn’t have any bugs, even minor ones. They can become especially prevalent after major updates, and Satisfactory 1.0 update is a good example. Players have reported encountering a bug that prevented Coal Generators from taking in Coal, thus collapsing the power network in their factories. This bug has been reported, but not yet fixed. While there are no official solutions yet, there are a few community-reported fixes that you can try.
Potential fixes for Coal Generator bug in Satisfactory
This bug manifests in such a way that your Coal Generator stops taking Coal from the conveyor belt, leaving the input slot empty and eventually stops producing power. One culprit could be that the Coal Generator now has a selection for “Preferred fuel type”, which the bug forces to reset every time you interact with it. Here’s what you can try:
Take one coal stack from the belt
The simplest solution to try to fix the bug is to approach the conveyor belt transporting coal to the Coal Generator. Take one stack directly from the belt into your inventory. If all goes well, the backed-up belt will resume and the generator will take coal again.
Manually input coal into the generator
When you interact with a bugged generator, you’ll see that the input is empty, even though there’s coal on the belt. Try manually adding coal from your inventory to the input, then leave and don’t interact with it again. This has been reported to fix the bug for the time being, but the crucial part is not touching it again while it works. Otherwise, the bug rears its ugly head again and will stop the input once more.
Make sure to have Coal in your inventory to do this. You should try taking one Coal stack first, as explained above, and if that doesn’t fix the bug, you’ll then have the Coal needed to try this solution.
Save and reload game
This solution is simple but doesn’t seem to work every time. It relies on resetting the world state through reloading, and thus coaxing the Coal Generator to function properly. To try it, simply save the game, quit to main menu, and then reload. If all goes according to plan, the bug will clear and your generator will work normally. However, the same caution applies here – if you interact with it, the bug will likely reappear.
