As one of the first things you come across in the open world vampire shooter Redfall, you may be curious as to how to clear the red mist that can be found across the map.
This dangerous fog causes damage over time as soon as you head into it, and is pretty effective at blocking off your path and making it difficult to approach a destination – and yet the game doesn’t do a great job at explaining it at first or in fact, until a ways into the game. So, if you want to know how to get rid of the of red mist in Redfall, you’ve come to the right place.
Redfall red mist explained
While the red mist is pretty dangerous – and can kill an unsuspecting hunter pretty quickly if they’re not being fully aware of their surroundings – it’s entirely possible to dispel the mist pretty early on. There’s two methods to get rid of it – and crucially, both of these require use of the game’s UV light mechanic – as UV light is particularly effective against Vampiric foes, turning them to stone.
If you take a look within a patch of red mist from a safe distance, you should see a gargoyle-like figure, and this is the source of that pesky red mist. However, if you try to shoot it from afar you’ll quickly find it’s impervious to bullets or conventional weapons. This is where your Portable UV Beam comes in handy.
Just aim at the Gargoyle and hold down the fire button. If you hear a bloodcurdling scream, you’re doing it right. Eventually, the mist will disperse, and the Gargoyle will turn from red to grey stone. However, don’t rest on your laurels just yet – after about 10 seconds, it’ll recover and the mist will return – so you want to run into the gargoyle as fast as you can and use your melee attack to destroy the Gargoyle. It should shatter with one more scream, and this ensures the red mist won’t return.
The second method is similar – but can come in handy particularly if you don’t have a Portable UV Beam in your inventory. Basically, in some areas, these gargoyles happen to be near an environmental UV light in the world. If there is one, follow the cables coming from the light to find the light’s generator. Then activate the generator with the action button, and ensure the light is pointed at the Gargoyle. Just like before, be sure to smash the Gargoyle once it turns to stone before the red mist has a chance to reappear. Don’t forget to collect the psychic energy the defeated gargoyle leaves behind too.
And that’s it. Hopefully you’re now armed with the knowledge you need to get rid of that pesky red mist, and let you explore the world of Redfall more freely.
