How to get Underboss skulls in Redfall

Once you’ve got a few vampire kills under your belt in Redfall, you may be asking yourself exactly how to get Underboss skulls.

Underboss skulls act as sort of keys in Redfall, specifically allowing you to fight the game’s hardest enemies – namely, the Vampire Gods. Access to their lairs is only permitted once you’ve put enough Underboss skulls on their altars – and killing these Gods can also net you some new cosmetics for your Redfall character – so they’re well worth the challenge.

Luckily, getting these Underboss skulls is fairly straightforward – so here’s how to do it.

Redfall Underboss skulls explained

There’s an Underboss in every region in Redfall – and to collect their skulls, first you’ll need to liberate a Safehouse. These are specific buildings in each region surrounded by UV lamps that not only provide you with health and ammo – but also offer up some small side missions, including to kill the Underboss to ‘free’ the region from Vampiric control.

To unlock a safehouse, first wander around until the game’s HUD tells you one is nearby. Then head to the marked location, and watch out for any enemies lurking around the entrance – usually a red cellar door marked with white paint. Take them out, then you should see the locked entrance – with some disabled UV lamps nearby, with a couple of cables connected to them. These cables will lead to a nearby generator, which you’ll have to activate by running up to it and holding the prompted button for a few seconds.

Once that’s done, you can now access the safehouse. Within the safehouse, head to the map – and there you’ll see a couple of missions – including one to take out the Underboss. You’ll first have to do the pre-requisite missions, so make sure you complete those first – then return to the safehouse. Once you’ve done so – you should be able to accept the mission to take out the Underboss.

Accept this mission, and the Underboss will be highlighted on your map – they’re usually hiding out in significant landmarks or important buildings. Be ready, as they’re a bit tougher than your average vampire opponent, and are often backed up by a number of other enemies – vampiric or human – that’ll try and and wreck your day. You can mind, get lucky as we did and manage to find one isolated, then hit them with our portable UV ray to freeze them before shattering them with a melee in one punch.
