Regardless of whether you’re an old or a new fan of Pokemon, chances are you’ve heard of the mythical Pokemon Mew. I mean, who hasn’t seen the legendary 1998 Pokemon: The First Movie?

Well, Pokemon’s MOBA game, Pokemon Unite, has also added Mew as a playable character in its ever growing roster of Pokemon. While there are two ways to get Mew in the game, only one of them is doable currently.

Method #1: Purchasing Mew’s Unite License
While mew is indeed a mythical Pokemon that many might argue brings it to the legendary status, it’s still available to purchase from the shop using aeos coins just like any other playable Pokemon.
What sets it apart from the rest, however, is the fact that Mew is the most expensive Pokemon you can purchase, at least at the time of writing this. If you want to purchase Mew’s unite license, then you’ll need to spend
- 15,000 aeos coins
OR
- 575 aeos gems
To put this into perspective, the second most expensive Pokemon are
- Scizor
- Dodrio
- Tyranitar
- Zoroark
All of which are worth 14,000 aeos coins or 575 aeos gems.
Fortunately, you can collect aeos coins relatively quickly by playing matches, regardless of whether you win or lose. As long as you don’t spend the coins you earn on purchasing the unite licenses of different Pokemon, you should be able to make 15000 sooner rather than later.
As for the aeos gems, the only way players can get those is by purchasing them using real life money. If you don’t want to wait until you have enough aeos coins, however, then getting Mew’s unite license using gems is also a viable option.
Method #2: Completing Mew’s Mural Event
To celebrate the game’s one year anniversary, Pokemon Unite had come out with a limited time special event in which players could have earned Mew without having to spend any coins or gems.

The aim of the event was to complete different missions in order to unlock slates. These slates were then to be used to solve a puzzle, not unlike the ones found in the Pokemon mainline games.
Players who were able to collect all the slates and complete the puzzle to form Mew’s picture using the slates were rewarded with Mew being unlocked permanently.
Unfortunately, the event only lasted for a set amount of time, after which the special missions became unavailable. If this, or a similar event comes in the future, then we recommend prioritizing it, as nothing’s better than a free Pokemon.
Time to Grind Those Coins
So in conclusion, the best and frankly only way currently to get Mew is by collecting enough coins to unlock the unite license. Alternatively, you could purchase the gems required and avoid having to grind completely.
